From Kawagoe’s Renjakucho intersection, it is about a 10 minute walk along Route 15. Plan to pay the 400 yen admission if you want to enter the former guest hall and related buildings, and note that the interior photography is not allowed. The grounds are large, so allow time to walk around, especially if you also want to see the nearby Senba Toshogu and the 500 Rakan.
The main draw is the strong connection to the Tokugawa family. You can see the relocated rooms from Edo Castle, including the hall linked to Tokugawa Iemitsu and Kasuga no Tsubone, and the main hall is known for goma fire rituals.

Really big temple, huge even. I love it here, it’s very quiet. Bring some cash so you can see the 500 statues!
