The temple is called the “headache-healing Kannon.” Emperor Go-Shirakawa was reportedly cured of chronic headaches here. You can also try the sacred Gochisui spring water, said to be created by Kobo Daishi.
Visit during autumn to enjoy the temple's beautiful maple trees in full color, and look for the Fujinami tea shop that occasionally sets up in the grounds serving excellent mitarashi dango (sweet rice dumplings).
The temple is located deep within the Sennyuji temple complex grounds, requiring a 10-minute uphill walk from the main Sennyuji entrance, so plan extra time for the approach and wear comfortable walking shoes for the incline.
If you're collecting goshuin (temple stamps), be aware that some visitors have reported inconsistent service quality at the stamp office, so approach with patience and respect.
