The Chureito Pagoda viewpoint here is one of the most photographed views of Mt. Fuji in Japan, and the crowds match its fame, so you will often hear more English and Chinese than Japanese.
Reaching the pagoda means climbing roughly 398 steep steps, about 15 to 20 minutes, or taking the longer sloped path that is gentler on the knees. Come at sunrise, around 6:30 to 7:00 AM, for the classic shot without the crush. By 8:00 the platform fills up and the food stalls do not open until about 8:30.
Spring adds cherry blossoms to the frame, but check the Fuji visibility forecast first, since the mountain often hides behind cloud even on days meant to be clear. Because of the numbers, the shrine gives out only pre-written goshuin, and nearby parking runs about 1,000 to 1,500 yen.
