Known as 'Tokyo's Ise Shrine,' this shrine was founded in 1880 to let Tokyo residents worship Ise's deities without the long pilgrimage to Mie Prefecture.
Tokyo Daijingu pioneered modern Shinto weddings in 1901, creating the ceremony style now used across Japan—inspired by Emperor Taisho's 1900 imperial wedding.
On March 5, 2025, visitors packed the shrine for a rare auspicious day combining six lucky calendar elements—an alignment that won't occur again for 68 years.

Iidabashi Station
The official entrance and参道 (approach path) is actually on the Mejiro-dori side with a stone marker, but most visitors enter from the Iidabashi Station side through the buildings.
From Iidabashi Station, the closest exit is the Tokyo Metro Tozai Line A5 exit (about 5 minutes walk). Cross the signal in front of the exit and follow the path between buildings where signs and the flow of people will guide you to the shrine.
The shrine is compact and can get very crowded, especially on auspicious days like taian or when special calendar dates align (such as天赦日 and 一粒万倍日).
If you attend a wedding here, expect a shrine with strong bridal significance: Tokyo Daijingu is the birthplace of modern Shinto weddings since 1900.
