A tiny 5.5 cm gold Kannon statue, said to be a gift from the deity Kumano Gongen in 815, is hidden inside the temple's life-size main statue. The original burned in 1927, but the legend lives on.
Kumadani-ji's main image is Senjū Kannon, the Thousand-Armed Avalokiteśvara.
