Joruri-ji is the only surviving temple in Japan with nine seated Amida Buddha statues lined up side by side, representing the nine levels of enlightenment a soul can achieve in the afterlife.

Both Joruri-ji's main hall and three-story pagoda are National Treasures, highlighting the temple's high cultural value.

When the largest Amida statue underwent restoration, workers discovered ancient woodblock prints of Amida hidden inside the hollow statue since its creation in the 11th century.

The temple preserves a Heian-period Pure Land garden, reflecting Buddhist ideas of paradise in landscape design.
