Visitors completing the Wakamiya Fifteen Shrine pilgrimage circuit must start and end at Meoto Daikoku-sha, making it both gateway and culmination of a spiritual journey through life's major milestones.
The shrine's divine couple legend traces back to Izumo Taisha, where priests carved wooden statues of the married deities in the Heian period and brought their spiritual presence to this Kasuga location.

Visit on weekdays or arrive before 10am to avoid the crowds that gather at this popular shrine for couples and those seeking good relationships.
Plan to spend at least 45 minutes to an hour if you're completing the full 15-shrine circuit, as the pilgrimage route winds through different sections of Kasuga Taisha's grounds and includes both active shrines and remote viewing stations.
Register for the Wakamiya Jūgossha pilgrimage at the Meoto Daikokusha reception desk (open 9am to 3pm, 1,500 yen) to visit all 15 subsidiary shrines within Kasuga Taisha's grounds.
Perform the hand and mouth purification ritual at the water basin directly across from Meoto Daikokusha before approaching the shrine, as this is the designated purification point for visitors beginning the Wakamiya pilgrimage.
Visit Meoto Daikokusha on November 16th for the annual festival if possible, or check the Kasuga Taisha calendar for other significant dates when the shrine receives special attention and ritual observances.
