A Shingon Buddhist temple in Onomichi, Hiroshima, Jodoji is known for its Kamakura-period architecture, including a National Treasure main hall and treasure pagoda. It is the 9th stop on the Chugoku 33 Kannon Pilgrimage and offers views over the Inland Sea.

Why you should go

Ashikaga Takauji donated a collection of 33 poems to the temple in 1336, thanking the gods for military success. The collection is still here today, registered as an Important Cultural Property.

Jodo-ji's treasure pagoda is also a National Treasure-grade highlight from the Kamakura period.
