When the 1762 main hall burned in 1969, the figure of Amida was said to have appeared in the flames, and the newspapers of the day reported it. The hall was rebuilt in 1971.

Takayama Station is a 20 to 30 minute walk. The Higashiyama walking course runs straight through the grounds, between Unryū-ji's bell tower and Sōgen-ji.
The grounds are free to enter and there is car parking. Goshuin are written at the temple office; phone ahead if you are coming for one.
