At a Glance
During the Edo period, courtesans from the nearby Nezu pleasure district regularly worshipped here, making this one of Tokyo's few shrines with deep historical ties to that world.
The shrine's tunnel of vermillion torii gates is said to grant extra blessings if you walk through from north to south, a directional belief unique to this particular shrine.

Walk through the tunnel of vermilion torii gates from north to south (starting at Komagome Inari Shrine and ending at Otome Inari) rather than the reverse direction, as locals believe this path direction amplifies spiritual benefits.
Plan to spend 20-30 minutes navigating the full tunnel of torii gates and exploring both Komagome Inari and Otome Inari shrines, as the path is longer than it initially appears and rewards a leisurely pace rather than a rushed walk-through.
Visit in February for the Komagome-Otome Inari Hatsuma Festival on the 12th, when the shrine hosts a dedicated celebration, or come on weekdays outside April to avoid the crowds that gather for the famous azalea blooms at the adjacent Tsutsuji garden.
Bring an offering of turnips or radishes if you wish to leave a donation, as the shrine has historical associations with turnip offerings similar to the radish tradition at nearby Matsuchiyo Shotendo in Asakusa, though modern visitors typically leave coins or ema (wooden prayer plaques).
Explore the stone markers and monuments scattered along the torii path, including the Tokugawa Ieyasu's son Ieyoshi's placenta burial mound (胞衣塚) and the Koshin Tower, which reveal layers of Edo-period history that most casual visitors overlook.
