You can reach the shrine via a scenic ropeway from Nihondaira, or climb the steep walking path from Kunosan-shita station, a 1,159-step ascent that rewards you with views over Suruga Bay.
The shrine's main buildings are designated National Treasures, their architecture and craftsmanship honoring the man who unified Japan and founded the Tokugawa shogunate that ruled for 250 years.

Facilities
Take the Nihondaira Ropeway from the top of Mount Nihondaira rather than hiking from Kunōzan-shita station, especially if you have limited time or mobility concerns.
Visit on a weekday morning between opening and mid-morning to experience the shrine's solemn atmosphere without the weekend crowds that typically gather, particularly during spring and autumn when tourist traffic peaks.
Arrive early enough to observe the shrine grounds from multiple angles during golden hour light, as the elevated position on Mount Kunō creates exceptional photography conditions with views over Shizuoka City and Suruga Bay in the background.
Park at the free 200-space lot at the Nihondaira summit if you're arriving by car, rather than searching for private parking near the shrine's base, which can be difficult to locate and may charge fees.
Bring water and wear sturdy shoes with good ankle support if you plan to walk up from Kunōzan-shita station, as the stone steps are steep, uneven in places, and the climb takes roughly 20-30 minutes depending on fitness level.
