What makes this place special?

At a Glance

HEP FIVE is a fashion and entertainment building in Kakudacho, Kita ward, Osaka, in the Umeda district. It is part of the HEP complex run by the Hankyu Hanshin Toho group, whose name abbreviates Hankyu Entertainment Park, and it stands next to its sister building HEP NAVIO. HEP FIVE opened in November 1998 on the site of the earlier Hankyu Five, with ten floors above ground and three below.

Its best-known feature is the red Ferris wheel on the roof, the world's first wheel built into a building. It has 52 gondolas, a diameter of 75 metres and a top height of about 106 metres, and on clear days it looks past the city toward Mount Rokko and Mount Ikoma. In the entrance atrium hangs a red whale-and-calf sculpture designed by Ishii Tatsuya. The floors hold shops for fashion, accessories, food and amusement, and the eighth floor has an event hall called HEP HALL.
