This temple is usually much less crowded than nearby Kiyomizu-dera, and you can reach it by city bus 206 to Kiyomizu-michi or by walking from Keihan Kiyomizu-Gojo or Hankyu Kawaramachi. There is no parking, so public transport is the easiest option.
Plan time for the paid Reikan museum if you want to see the main highlights: the famous Kukai statue, the seated Taira no Kiyomori statue, and other Buddhist images, some with photography prohibited. The grounds also include a small mound linked to Kiyomori, and the surrounding area still gives a sense of old Kyoto.

A quiet local gem. Simple and peaceful. Lovely architecture. Super friendly staff.
