In July 2011, a typhoon toppled a 400-year-old cedar tree that crashed through the main hall's roof, damaging this temple that had already survived destruction by warlord Chōsokabe Motochika in the 1500s.
Tairyu-ji is Temple No. 21 on the Shikoku 88-temple pilgrimage, making it one of the official pilgrimage stops in Shikoku.
