The shrine features adorable Shima-enaga (long-tailed tit) themed items including special omikuji fortunes,御朱印 stamps, and even seasonal snow sculptures shaped like these beloved tiny birds native to Hokkaido.
Unlike Asahikawa's Hokkaido Gokoku Shrine which honors all Hokkaido war dead, Sapporo Gokoku specifically enshrines only those from 5 regions: Ishikari, Sorachi, Iburi, Hidaka, Oshiri, plus Sakhalin Island.
The shrine offers unique seasonal flower temizuya (hand-washing basins) including rare sunflower arrangements in summer—an uncommon choice that creates an energizing atmosphere unlike typical lotus or chrysanthemum displays.
During prayer ceremonies, the shrine allows professional photographers inside and conducts individual family blessings one group at a time, rather than the common practice of blessing multiple families simultaneously.
