Kobo Daishi carved a statue of himself and enshrined it here, declaring his wish to rid the world of troubles for less fortunate people. This self-carved statue is now the principal image in the Daishido hall.
Kobo Daishi spent seven days meditating in a waterfall to perform a secret ceremony that would lift the temple's ban on women, allowing him to welcome his mother who had traveled from Sanuki to see him.
