The temple's name contains both 'Jin' (神) for Shinto and 'Ji' (寺) for Buddhism, making it a rare survivor of the forced separation of religions ordered by the Meiji government in the 1800s.
Kiyoshikojin Seicho-ji was founded in 896, giving it more than 1,100 years of history.
