Suwa Grand Shrine (諏訪大社, Suwa-taisha), also known as Suwa Shrine (諏訪神社, Suwa-jinja) and Suwa Daimyōjin (諏訪大明神), is a major Shinto shrine complex in Nagano Prefecture. It is the ichinomiya of former Shinano Province and is regarded as one of Japan’s oldest shrines.
Its origins are linked to the late 7th century, with the Nihon Shoki suggesting it already existed by then. The shrine’s long history makes it an important center of regional worship and Shinto tradition.
The complex consists of several shrine sites rather than a single building, and it remains an active religious center closely tied to local pilgrimage customs and seasonal rites.
