Engyo-ji, on Mount Shosha above Himeji, Hyogo, is a Tendai Buddhist temple founded in 966. Known as the “Mount Hiei of the West,” it is the largest temple on the Saigoku Kannon Pilgrimage and an important historic training center with the Shaka Sanzon as its principal image.
