The annual October festival features elaborately decorated wooden floats (butai) designated as Important Tangible Folk Cultural Properties, parading through streets while musicians perform aboard the moving platforms.
During New Year's, lines of worshippers stretch far down the street as locals queue for their first prayers of the year, making it one of Matsumoto's most crowded spots despite being built relatively recently in 1879.

Il santuario si trova vicino al Castello di Matsumoto, lungo la sponda nord del fiume Metoba, nei pressi della via commerciale Nawate. Camminare dall'uscita est della stazione di Matsumoto è l'approccio più pratico. Arrivare in auto è scomodo poiché il parcheggio in loco è molto piccolo, quindi un parcheggio a pagamento nelle vicinanze funziona meglio se si arriva in automobile.
Quattro divinità sono consacrate qui insieme: Amenominakanushi, Takamimusubi, Kamimusubi e Amaterasu, una combinazione che si dice sia rara a livello nazionale. Un Shokonsha (santuario commemorativo) e un piccolo santuario Ebisu si trovano all'interno del complesso, insieme a un sub-santuario Mitsumine e un punto di venerazione di Ise Jingu.
