At a Glance

Ebisu is a neighborhood in the southernmost part of Shibuya ward in Tokyo, developed on the site of a former brewery. The area took its name from Yebisu Beer, which the Japan Beer Brewery Company, now Sapporo Breweries, began brewing here in 1890. The beer brand was itself named after Ebisu, one of the Seven Lucky Gods.

After the brewery moved to Chiba in 1988, the site was redeveloped and Yebisu Garden Place opened in 1994. The complex has a sloped promenade leading to a central plaza under a glass arch, the Museum of Yebisu Beer and the Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography. It is reached from JR Ebisu Station by the covered Ebisu Skywalk, about five minutes on foot. Around the station are many restaurants, cafes, izakaya, ramen shops and small standing bars.
