God of Trees and Forests
Isotakeru-no-mikoto is a deity appearing in Japanese mythology, known as a son of Susanoo, who was himself the child of the primordial pair Izanagi and Izanami. His sisters are Oyatsuhime and Tsumatsuhime, goddesses also associated with trees and timber.
Although he is sometimes equated with Oyabikono-kami, another deity said to be a child of Izanagi and Izanami, the two are generally regarded as distinct figures in the tradition. This occasional conflation reflects the fluid nature of divine genealogies in Shinto belief.
Isotakeru is revered as a kami connected to trees, forests, and the bounty of the natural world. His worship highlights the deep reverence for the forest that runs through Japanese religious and cultural history.
