概要
The main approach path climbs over 1km at a 45-degree slope, making this possibly the hardest temple to reach in all of Kochi Prefecture. It's considered both a nansho (difficult temple) and a spiritual barrier on the pilgrimage.
After burning down in the Meiji Period when new temple construction was banned, locals found an unused temple in another prefecture and had it completely dismantled, transported, and rebuilt here piece by piece.

A sacred spring called Ishimizu flows from two rocks behind the bell tower and is believed to cure all illnesses. Pilgrims have sought out this healing water for centuries.
The mother of Mitsubishi's founder walked 20km to this temple daily for 21 days straight to pray for her son's success during the final years of the Tokugawa shogunate. The corporation later became a patron of the temple.
