En bref
During the 14th century, this Shinto shrine became affiliated with Kan'ei-ji, a powerful Buddhist temple. All Buddhist elements were stripped away during the Meiji era's forced separation of the two religions.
The shrine uniquely honors three deities at once: the gods of water, fire, and agriculture. This rare combination reflects Mount Haruna's volcanic nature and the farming communities it sustained.
