At 2,775 meters, the ropeway to Tairyu-ji is western Japan's longest cable car. It carries up to 101 passengers per trip and takes just 10 minutes to reach the mountaintop temple.
In July 2011, a typhoon toppled a 400-year-old cedar tree that crashed through the main hall's roof, damaging this temple that had already survived destruction by warlord Chōsokabe Motochika in the 1500s.
