When Kobo Daishi returned from China in 807, he threw a sacred jewel eastward to find the perfect temple site. Years later, he discovered it glowing in a camphor tree here, guided by an old man with an ox.

Farmers bring miniature sandals and ceramic figures of their cows and horses to the Kachikudo hall, praying for livestock safety. In recent years, pet owners and even fighting bull breeders come to pray here.
