神社の参拝方法は？

1. Pass Through the Torii Gate

The torii gate marks the boundary between the secular and sacred worlds. Bow slightly before passing through and always walk to the side, as the center is reserved for the kami

2. Cleanse at the Temizuya (Purification Fountain)

1. Take the ladle in your right hand and rinse your left hand

1. Switch the ladle to your left hand and rinse your right hand

1. Pour water into your left palm and rinse your mouth (do not drink from the ladle)

1. Rinse your left hand again

1. Rinse the handle of the ladle before replacing it

3. Approach the Main Hall

Walk toward the main hall, being mindful to stay to the sides of the path as the center is reserved for the kami.

4. Make an Offering

1. Toss a coin into the offering box (5 yen coins are considered lucky)
2. Ring the bell (if available) to announce your presence to the kami

5. Bow and Pray

1. Bow deeply twice
2. Clap your hands twice
3. Pray with your hands together
4. Bow deeply once more

6. Visit Other Shrine Buildings
