Konsen-ji fu ricostruito nel periodo Edo dopo essere stato incendiato dal clan Chōsokabe.

Konsen-ji è il Tempio N. 3 del Pellegrinaggio degli 88 Templi di Shikoku, a Itano, Tokushima.

Benkei, the legendary warrior monk, supposedly lifted a massive stone here to demonstrate his superhuman strength to Minamoto Yoshitsune before their battle against the Heike clan in 1185. The stone still sits on the temple grounds today.

Emperor Chokei's tomb is located directly behind the main hall. The temple once housed a hall modeled after Kyoto's famous Sanjusangendo with 1,000 statues of Kannon enshrined inside.
