Suggest corrections and report issues

Use Suggest an edit to fix place details, Report a problem for anything unsafe or wrong, and track what happened to your submission.

What this helps you do

  • Correct a detail on a temple or shrine page that is out of date or wrong.
  • Report content that is inappropriate, unsafe, or attached to the wrong place.
  • Follow what happened to something you submitted.

Corrections are most useful for opening hours, place names, locations, goshuin
attribution, photos, and official links. Those are the details people plan real
visits around.

Suggest an edit

  1. Open the temple or shrine page you want to correct.
  2. Select Suggest an edit near the top of the page.
  3. Pick the part you want to change: name, location, contact, hours, or visitor information.
  4. Enter the corrected value, and add the official page or a photo that confirms it.
  5. Submit.

The dialog is linkable. Adding ?suggest=edit to a place page URL opens it, and
?suggest=edit&panel=hours opens it on a specific step. The panels are name,
location, contact, hours, and visitor.

Where a place page is missing something, you will also see a short prompt in
place of the empty value, such as Add hours or Add location. Those open
the same dialog on the matching step.

Report a problem

Use Report a problem on the place page when something is not a simple
factual correction: content that does not belong, a duplicate place, a photo
that should not be there, or a goshuin attached to the wrong temple.

For a goshuin that is shown against the wrong place, you can also report it from
the community feed on the card itself.

Suggest a temple that is missing entirely

If the place has no page at all, it is not a correction, it is a new entry. Type
the name into search and select Suggest "your search" as a new temple or
shrine
. See "Search and navigate the site" for the full flow.

What happens next

Every suggestion and report is reviewed by an editor before anything changes on
the site. Nothing you submit is published automatically.

You can see your own submissions and their status under
Settings > Contributions, grouped into pending, approved, and rejected.

Before you start

  • Sign in. Submissions are tied to your account so you can follow them.
  • Have the official page, a photo, or the exact place URL ready. A correction with a source is reviewed faster than one without.

Tips

  • One correction per submission is easier to review than a list of unrelated changes.
  • Say where the information came from, especially for hours and goshuin availability.
  • If two pages describe the same place, report one as a duplicate rather than editing both.

Troubleshooting

  • If a section is empty, the Atlas may not have that data yet for this place. Check the official source before planning around it.
  • If map, building, or nearby context looks wrong, compare the place name and address before reporting.
  • If goshuin, hours, or event details are outdated, send the place name plus the official page or photo that confirms the update.
  • If your suggestion was rejected, the reason appears with it under Settings > Contributions.

Privacy, accuracy, or availability notes

  • Do not include private contact or payment information in a submission.
  • Place pages are planning tools. Confirm opening hours, access, events, and goshuin availability with official sources before traveling.
  • Respect photography, worship, and goshuin reception rules even when online information is incomplete.
