Kobo Daishi founded this temple after finding a single-pronged vajra he had thrown all the way from Tang Dynasty China. The sacred implement guided him to this exact mountainside location.

Pilgrims must climb 170 stone steps to reach the main hall, with a striking vermilion three-story pagoda appearing halfway up the ascent.
