Community cats live in the grounds, often near the bell tower; goods sold at the temple and donations pay for their food.
Jingu-Marutamachi on the Keihan line is about 6 minutes on foot and Marutamachi on the Karasuma subway about 7. The grounds are open 8:00 to 16:30.

From the moments I walked in, it was a calming temple. The staff were very pleasant and helpful and loved the animal-themed amulets and goods. It's a very nice place to go and take a seat and relax for a moment while walking Kyoto. Lots of butterflies. bout as well
