The shrine overlooks the famous Meoto Iwa or 'wedded rocks,' two sacred rocks in the sea connected by a shimenawa rope. They symbolize the union of the creator deities Izanagi and Izanami.

The shrine is famous for its vast collection of frog sculptures, which serve as messengers of the deity. Visitors pray to them for safe returns, as the Japanese word for frog (kaeru) also means 'to return home.'
