Two separate shrines merged here in 1841: one dedicated to Suwa-myojin (enshrined in 1339) and another to Sugawara-no-Michizane (enshrined in 1402), finally unified under the name Fukashi Shrine.

The Tenjin Matsuri festival each July features 16 elaborately decorated floats from different neighborhoods that compete in a parade, making it one of Matsumoto's signature summer events.

On July 14th, the Yasaka-sama Matsuri lets children write wishes in calligraphy on reed and paper banners to pray for their health and happiness, a unique tradition still practiced today.

The shrine grounds feature a gold-plated statue of a scholar and impressive guardian lion statues, plus a rare resting bull statue, all painted in bright colors that stand out against typical shrine aesthetics.
