感通寺

Kantsuji Temple is located in Kikuichō, the birthplace of famous novelist Natsume Sōseki. The district was actually named by Sōseki's father in 1869, combining the family crest symbols of chrysanthemum and well.

The temple is home to Subaru-kun, a beloved Shiba Inu who has become a local celebrity. Visitors traveling near Shinjuku often stop by specifically to meet this friendly temple dog.

Kikuichō, where Kantsuji sits, is one of Tokyo's few remaining districts still using the old chiban lot number system instead of modern addresses. Multiple buildings often share the same historic lot number.

Despite being steps from the world's busiest train station in Shinjuku, Kantsuji maintains a remarkably serene atmosphere. The temple opens daily at 7 AM for early morning meditation and reflection.
