Arrivate nel primo pomeriggio: il check-in inizia alle 15:00, e i monaci potranno mostrarvi i giardini e i terreni prima della cena. Prenotate con largo anticipo, in particolare per la cerimonia mattutina, poiché Nan-in dispone di soli 25 camere per gli ospiti.
Prenotate lo shakyo, o la copia di sutra, in anticipo. Nella sala del tè, offre una pratica tranquilla e pratica. Nella sala principale, fermatevi sotto il dipinto del soffitto del Drago Ruggente e battete le mani per sentire il suo caratteristico eco.
Portate abiti facili da togliere in modo da poter utilizzare il bagno in stile onsen dopo l'esplorazione. Restate per i pasti shojin inclusi, anche se di solito mangiate carne. I piatti stagionali come il tofu di sesamo e il Koya-tofu sono un punto culminante.
