En bref
White Genji clan flags with two black lines surround the shrine, recreating the banners Yoritomo's warriors carried into battle in 1180, worshippers now pray here for career success and 'launching business' using this military symbolism.
As a Benzaiten shrine built on an island, it follows the tradition that this goddess of water and prosperity must be worshipped near water, she's one of Japan's Seven Lucky Gods and grants wishes for success and eloquence.

This shrine sits inside Tsurugaoka Hachimangu, on a small island-like spot in Genji Pond. It is easy to reach once you are in the grounds, and it can still feel quiet even when the main shrine is crowded. The site is known for Benzaiten linked to performing arts, and morning worshippers are common.
Plan to visit the office just to the right of the hall if you want a goshuin, which is available by hand from 9:00. Look for the large maki tree at the entrance and the stone behind the hall associated with Masako Hojo. There are many pigeons around, so it may not suit you if you dislike birds.
