Plan your visit for autumn if you can. The foliage around the grounds turns deep red and orange, and that's when the shrine looks its best.

The shrine sits close to Todai-ji, so it fits naturally into the same half-day loop. Most visitors stop here on the way to or from the main temple complex without needing extra travel time.
