Historic Tendai Buddhist temple founded in 1625, once a vast complex rivaling Enryaku-ji. Served as the Tokugawa family temple and housed six Tokugawa shoguns. Largely destroyed in 1868 during the Boshin War, the remaining structures preserve its legacy.
