• The shrine is just a few minutes' walk from Tamagawa Station, making it highly accessible for a quick visit. Weekdays tend to be quieter with fewer worshippers, allowing for a more peaceful experience compared to weekends when locals, tourists, and people taking walks along the river all converge.
• The shrine is built on top of a burial mound (the rear portion of Asama Shrine Kofun, a former keyhole-shaped tumulus from the Kofun period), so be prepared to climb stairs to reach the main shrine building and observation area.
• Visit the observation deck area within the shrine grounds for panoramic views of the Tamagawa River and the Tokyu Toyoko and Meguro train lines crossing it.
• Look for unique features like the Mount Fuji-shaped water basin (chozuya) and the Shin Godzilla-themed vending machine in the shrine grounds, as the shrine served as a filming location for the 2016 movie.
• Before entering through the first torii gate, check out the unusual rotating wheel display that features passages from the Kojiki (ancient Japanese mythology), a rare feature not commonly found at other shrines.
• If you're interested in Fuji worship, look for symbols or imagery linked to Mt. Fuji and Konohanasakuya-hime during your visit.
