Kamayama Jinja in southern Wakayama enshrines Hikoitsuse, the eldest brother of Emperor Jimmu, whom the Kojiki and Nihon Shoki say was buried at Kamayama. His tomb, designated by the Imperial Household Agency, lies behind the main sanctuary. A small shrine until the Meiji era, it was raised to the highest rank of Imperial shrine before the war.
