Pourquoi y aller
- Call ahead at 086-422-2844 before making the trip if you specifically want to see the interior of the main hall, since it is not always open to walk-in visitors outside of the jazz and festival events, and the temple has no dedicated parking so plan to use nearby public lots in the Bikan district.
- Plan your visit around the Kurashiki Jazz Street (October, third weekend) or Byobu Festival (November, first weekend) if you want to see the main hall in active use, since the historic 1764 building serves as a performance and exhibition venue during these events and is otherwise accessed only during regular services.
- Visit on a weekday morning to find the temple staff available for御首題, since the head priest may be absent during services or community events, and you'll have the peaceful grounds largely to yourself to explore the妙見堂 (Myoken Hall), 清正堂 (Kiyomasa Hall), and the elevated cemetery with views over the Bikan district.
