Upload goshuin to your goshuincho

What this helps you do

• Add a goshuin photo to your collection and attach it to the temple or shrine where you received it.
• Finish an upload that is sitting in your goshuincho without a temple attached.

Attaching the temple is the step that does the work. Until a goshuin has one, it
stays a loose photo. Once it has one, it appears on your map, lands in your
timeline in the right place, and counts toward your collection stats.

Before you start

• Sign in. Personal goshuincho features are tied to your account.
• Have a clear photo ready where the seal, the calligraphy, and the page edges are readable.
• Know roughly where you received it. The temple name is what you will search for.

Steps

1. Open your goshuincho at My goshuincho, then open the book you want to add to.
2. Select Add goshuin. You can also reach this directly with ?addGoshuin=true on the book URL.
3. Upload a photo of the goshuin page or insert, and crop it if you are prompted.
4. Start typing the temple or shrine name in the temple field, then pick the match from the list.
5. Add the visit date, a caption, and any notes you want to keep.
6. Review the privacy setting and save.

Attaching a temple to a goshuin you already uploaded

If you saved a goshuin without a temple, nothing is lost. You can attach one at
any time.

1. Open the book that holds the goshuin.
2. Select the goshuin, then choose Edit details.
3. Type the temple or shrine name in the temple field and pick it from the list.
4. Save.

The edit view is linkable, so a link of the form
/me/goshuincho/<book-id>?editGoshuin=<goshuin-id> opens straight onto that
goshuin. That is the link we send you if we notice an upload has been waiting a
while.

When you cannot find the temple

Search is usually the problem, not the database. Try these in order.

• Use the Japanese name, or a shorter part of it. Search matches romaji and kanji both.
• Drop honorifics and suffixes. Searching Kiyomizu finds more than Kiyomizu-dera Temple does.
• Try the reading you saw on the goshuin itself. Many places are listed under a reading you would not guess from the English name.
• Search the city or area and browse from the place page.

If none of that works, the temple may genuinely not be in the Atlas yet. Type
the name into search and you will see an option to suggest it as a new temple or
shrine. Send the name, add the address or a rough location if you have it, and
we take it from there. Every suggestion is reviewed by an editor before anything
goes live, and you can follow yours under Settings > Contributions.

Tips

• Use even lighting and avoid glare.
• Keep the page flat so the edges stay readable.
• Leave unrelated documents and identifiable people out of the frame.
• If a goshuin ends up attached to the wrong place, open Edit details and change the temple rather than deleting the entry.

Troubleshooting

• If the temple field returns nothing, try a shorter search term before assuming the place is missing.
• If an upload seems stuck, check that you are still signed in, then reload the book and try again.
• If a goshuin looks attached to the wrong temple, edit the entry. If the underlying place data is wrong, report it from the place page instead.

Privacy, accuracy, or availability notes

• Goshuin availability changes often, especially for seasonal, limited, festival, and handwritten designs.
• Only share goshuincho entries publicly when you are comfortable exposing the image, the visit date, and your notes.
• Respect temples and shrines that restrict photography, resale, or online sharing of goshuin.
