Use prefecture and city pages

Plan by region when you know where you will travel but not which places to visit.

What this helps you do

  • Start with geography instead of a specific temple or shrine name.
  • Move from a prefecture to cities and then to individual place pages.
  • Build a practical shortlist for a trip day or region.

Prefecture and city pages are useful when your itinerary already includes an area such as Kyoto, Tokyo, Nara, Osaka, or another region, but you still need to choose what to visit.

  6. Compare several places in the same city before deciding your route.

Tips

  • Use region pages before the map when you are still choosing a destination.
  • Use the map after you have a shortlist and need to understand distance.
  • Keep official access details in mind; places in the same city can still be far apart.

Troubleshooting

  • If a prefecture page feels overwhelming, open a city page or use search within the area.
  • If a city page has few places, check the prefecture page or /places for a broader list.
  • If a place appears in the wrong region, verify the place detail page before reporting it.

Privacy, accuracy, or availability notes

  • Regional pages organize discovery data; they do not guarantee route feasibility.
  • Confirm transportation, opening hours, and event timing before travel.
  • City and prefecture labels can simplify local geography for browsing.
